Research and Analysis

Mapping Needs and Potentials

During the consultation phase of any project we will undertake research and analysis of the organisations needs and potentials using the techniques below.

Types of Analysis

The type of data used to support the design will be wide ranging, covering both programme participants skills, management reporting requirements and how values are being expressed in the organisation. Analysis will take the form of interviews and statistical analysis of such things as: days lost to illness, time taken to bring new hires up to speed, project efficiency etc.

Below are some examples of the analysis techniques that might be used, the techniques used are tailored for the organisation and  depend on the availability of data and the overall goals.

Bright Spot Analysis

Here we look for solutions and approaches that are currently working well for the organisation. During the “bright spot” interviews and appreciative inquiry sessions, case study information and success stories will be gathered to use in e-learning and workshop content.

Core Challenges Analysis

This analysis consists of identifying the core challenges for managers around the learning outcomes for the programme. What gets in the way of them doing appraisals? What is the most challenging aspect of being a manager? etc. This data gathering will be done via interviews particularly in areas that maybe under-performing.

Collaboration & Communication Pathways

Map out where the collaboration is already working well in the organisation and where information is blocked or missing. Enhancing both collaboration and communication is an effective action learning tool both in workshops and coaching sessions. For example, managers might be challenged to design (after receiving the appropriate module) a technique to increase collaboration within their team. Follow up coaching would support them to implement their idea and evaluate its effectiveness. The most effective techniques would then be shared with the whole organisation and so encourage other managers to experiment with that approach in their team.

Language Analysis

Understand current terminology and key concepts with in the organisation that can be used effectively to reinforce learning and support values. This means metaphors for learning are consistent with existing understanding and where new concepts need to be added it is done in a compatible way.

Process Review for Practical Challenges

This step involves gathering and agreeing processes that can be used as the basis for practical challenges for participants (see module examples in the brochure for more details about the use of practice challenges). It might include communication processes, IT, recruitment, induction, technical procedures etc.
